Golf cart maintenance checklist: keep your cart running right
Your golf cart is how you get to the pool, the beach and the neighbors’ house. Whatever brand you drive, a little care keeps it ready for every ride and helps it hold its value.
Here's the checklist our service team recommends — broken down by how often you should do each task.
🔧 Monthly
- Check tire pressure. Low pressure causes uneven wear, reduces range, and makes the cart handle poorly. Check your owner's manual for the right PSI.
- Inspect brakes. Listen for squealing or grinding. Test stopping distance. If anything feels off, get it checked before it becomes a bigger problem.
- Clean the cart. Wipe down seats, dash, and body. Remove dirt and debris from under the seat and around the battery compartment. Salt air (especially near the coast) accelerates corrosion.
- Check all lights. Headlights, taillights, turn signals, brake lights. Replace any burned-out bulbs immediately — especially if you drive at dusk or on roads.
📅 Every 3 months
- Inspect battery connections. Even lithium systems need periodic connection checks. Look for loose terminals, corrosion, or damaged wiring.
- Lubricate moving parts. Steering components, suspension bushings, and brake cables benefit from periodic lubrication. Use a silicone-based lubricant — not WD-40.
- Check the charger. Make sure your charger is functioning correctly and completing full charge cycles. A failing charger can damage your battery pack over time.
- Inspect tires for wear. Look for uneven wear patterns, cracks, or bulges. Rotate tires if your cart supports it.
🗓️ Every 6 months / seasonally
- Full brake inspection. Pads, drums/rotors, cables, and fluid (if applicable). Brakes are the most important safety system on your cart.
- Suspension check. Look for worn bushings, loose bolts, or sagging springs. A lifted cart puts extra stress on suspension components.
- Electrical system check. Test all accessories — horn, lights, sound system, USB ports, screens. Electrical gremlins are easier to fix when caught early.
- Detail and protect. A good wash, wax, and UV protectant on seats and plastics keeps your cart looking new and protects against sun damage.
The stuff most owners forget
- Keeping the cart charged. Don't let a lithium battery sit at 0% for extended periods. If you're storing the cart, keep it at 50-80% charge and plug it in monthly.
- Wheel alignment. Hitting curbs and rough terrain knocks alignment out over time. Misalignment causes tire wear and makes the cart pull to one side.
- Updating firmware. Some modern carts have software that can be updated. Ask our service team about the latest versions.
