Lithium battery upgrades: what you need to know
If your cart still runs on lead-acid batteries, a lithium upgrade can make every ride better. Here’s what changes, and what to know before you switch.
What you’ll notice after switching
- Steady power all day. Lithium keeps its pep until it’s nearly empty, so your last lap feels like your first.
- A lighter cart. Less battery weight helps with acceleration, braking and handling, and is easier on tires and suspension.
- No more battery watering. No distilled water, no acid spills, no cleaning corrosion. Lithium packs are sealed.
- Faster charging and more range. Most owners spend less time plugged in and more time riding.
What to look for
- A reputable pack. Choose a known manufacturer with a track record you can check.
- The right charger. Lithium needs a lithium-compatible charger. An old lead-acid charger can damage the cells.
- A quality BMS. A Battery Management System protects against overcharging, over-discharging and overheating.
- Professional installation. High-voltage systems are best left to a qualified technician.
